Prayer to St. Nicholas

St. Nicholas, we beseech thee, pray for us in this Advent season. Grant that we who have been so abundantly blessed, may follow the example of thy grace and charity to those in need. Pray that we may be filled with a greater love for our Lord Jesus Christ, and that in so doing, we may learn what it is to love our neighbor with the love that He bestowed upon us in giving Himself up in our behalf. Pray for us, that we may find true joy in the truth that it is more blessed to give than to receive. And finally, help us to seek always to glorify our Savior by keeping our hearts fixed on Him during this Advent, as well as during the coming Christmas season. Amen.

In an age of rampant materialism and replacement of the Advent season with Santa Claus et all, all Christians, esp. parents and clergy, should ensure children know the story of St Nicholas. There are some good children books on the subject that make great gifts and wonderful bedtime reading.

Anonymous,

Yes, this is good and helpful. There are many ways that can help children to see the real purpose behind this season, but they require diligence from the parents. Here is one suggestion:
